Black Farmers United – New York State Inc.
Protecting our legacy, ensuring our future

Black Farmers United NYS is a member-led policy, advocacy, and education organization run by over 100 Black growers, entrepreneurs, and food justice advocates dedicated to co-creating equitable food systems.
Farming is a calling. Black farmers have answered this call for centuries. Our ancestors were enslaved to work this land, and through farming we have found pathways from oppression to self-reliance, and from slavery to sovereignty. Join us in this movement.
Black farmers’ contributions in New York are often undercounted, overlooked, and undervalued, to the detriment of the health and prosperity of black communities statewide. As a response, our community has created 9 Solutions for Racial Inequity in New York Agriculture.
Our 85+ members are farmers, growers, food entrepreneurs, and food justice advocates who live throughout NYS’s ten regions. See our interactive map in the footer to see which of our growers and producers live near you.
We work hard to uplift the voices of Black farmers. We attend conferences, participate in media interviews, and more to inform the public about our cause.
